Worn teeth of ridden cassettes, chains, rings, and more live on to tell the story of the ride. This collection is created on paper mounted to birch panels. Recycled tubes, chains, and cables are used for framing and meant to show as part of the work.
Perfect for intimate settings or to hang in groups the Boutique collection is a series of 6x6 mixed media paintings on canvas. Some are expressionist, and others are abstracted images. They are framed in 2" deep black gallery floater frame with a finished size of 7.5x7.5.
The inspiration story for the birds. When my son was a toddler I would make art with him. I started giving him a blank canvas or one that I didn't like. He was allowed to do anything he wanted, which was mainly concentrated scribbles. After some consideration we decided they were bird's nests. on those early works he made the nests, and I would paint the birds!
Expressive nature, animals, and landscapes. All of these paintings began with play. This painting began with black drips that became the trees and the rocks! I never know what's going to show up, I play first and then see what inspires me.
Expressive abstract works. The shift to abstraction. When I started to paint again after taking a break it was right after my son was born. I tried to paint like I did before, but he was only happy on my lap. As you can imagine it's not easy to paint and hold a baby! This was the beginning of allowing more freedom into my work. Instead of painting a "thing" the focus shifted to harmonizing value, design, and color. Now, I always begin this way!
Created by using the original blueprint method, these are exposed using shadows and sunlight, a tricky process working at this scale! First I weather the canvas, adding a few layers of tinted gesso to give it an aged effect. Then to expose. If I get a cloud over the sun the whole process is lost! I don't make them often, but when I do they're a ton of fun when they turn out!
Energetic abstract works full of movement and positive vibes. These works are meant to inspire whatever it is that brings you alive and makes you feel free! The only activity I love as much as making art is riding bikes. I wanted to capture what it feels like to push past what you thought were your limits, where we don't hold anything back.
I like to call these my "Album Covers"! Much like the 6x6 paintings these works range from purely abstract expressionism to representational works. Painted on cradeled 12x12 baltic birch panels they offer the opportunity for more exploration. I often sand back layers, use wire brushes, scrape away paint, subtracting as much as adding I can really explore the limits of the media.
